Handle With Care. Berlin Edition

Location: Collegium Hungaricum Berlin
When
16. May, 2025 – 29. June

Care permeates almost every corner of today's social reality. Partly attributed to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a sharper awareness than ever of collective care, the sense of responsibility towards ourselves and others. The pandemic period has also revealed the heavy burdens placed on women, healthcare workers, participants in the social sphere, highlighting significant inequalities in the distribution of caregiving work between genders. It has also sharpened questions regarding the role of states, the prioritization of economic interests, and individual autonomy.

The title of the exhibition, 'Handle with Care,' refers to the vulnerability of those in need of care, the asymmetrical relationship between caregiver and cared-for, the fragility of life, and the vulnerability of our ecosystem, the gaps in our social fabric, and the everyday rituals of caregiving - but above all, it emphasizes the necessity of collective responsibility. This exhibition presents real situations and raises questions rather than providing ready-made answers to the listed issues. Different artistic positions present diverse perspectives, and the diversity of artworks underscores that caregiving is a key concept of our time, with significant critical potential.
