Dr. Kinga Hamvai is an art historian. She obtained her bachelor’s degrees in Art History and Applied Economics at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and continued her studies in Design and Art Management at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), as well as in the Curatorial Studies program at Aalto University in Helsinki. She completed her doctoral research at the MOME Doctoral School, during which she spent one year at the City University of Hong Kong and six months in India. Her dissertation focused on art institutions in South and East Asia, and she earned her PhD in 2023. As a lecturer, she has taught courses on museums, the art market, and East Asian art at institutions including MOME, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, Comenius University in Bratislava, and École EAC in Paris. She has organized numerous exhibitions in the East Asian region.
About the exhibition: The selection features the works of twenty internationally recognized artists and collectives who address important topics such as the cultural heritage of indigenous people, the lingering traces of colonization, Taiwan’s turbulent and often traumatic history at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the evolution of modern Taiwanese identity and values, and the technology-based economy and society of the present and future. The exhibited works are extremely diverse in terms of genre: in addition to installations, interactive projects, videos, and animations using the most innovative technologies, visitors can also encounter archaic techniques, paper works, paintings, and sculptures.
