How can we understand each other through colonial experiences that sometimes seem so distant? How can critical art contribute to healing the wounds of colonialism and awaken us to our own colonial history?
The exhibition Golden Repair is introduced by critical geographer and global historian Zoltán Ginelli in a way unique to the Hungarian scene: from a decolonial perspective. By placing the works in dialogue with Hungarian historical and social contexts, he invites us on a journey in search of global connections. The key concept of the tour is translation: by reversing the colonial logic of compartmentalized museum spaces, it instead engages in creating a common tongue by transgressing isolated, non-dialogic narratives of victimhood. It awakens the resistant voices and subversive memories in the works displayed separately in the exhibition space through the liberating power of associative dialogue and connective action.
Zoltán Ginelli is a critical geographer and global historian working as a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. His main research field is Hungary’s historical place in global colonialism.
