Rigová is a prominent Slovak Roma visual artist, performer, and academic whose work critically examines identity, representation, and power structures in European society. Themes central to her artistic practice include cultural and social stereotypes, the historical construction of Roma identity, and loss, with a particular focus on the disappearance and forced assimilation of the Roma cultural presence in European history. Rigová frequently interrogates how Roma bodies and identities have been marginalised, erased or appropriated within European cultural narratives. She studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, earning a PhD in 2011. A key element of her work is the creation of her alter ego, BARI RAKLORI, established in 2012. This persona acts as a symbolic bridge between majority and minority cultures, enabling Rigová to explore hybridity, visibility, and the tension between inclusion and exclusion. Through this figure, she stages a dialogue about identity politics, gender and the body from postfeminist and institutional critique perspectives.
