Gentian Shkurti

(Mammuras, 1977 – )

Studied Painting at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, Albania, where he later worked two years as associate professor. His works have been exhibited in several major institutions in Europe: Promesses du Passé / “Tirana Case”, Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, 2010; curator: Christine Macel), In The Gorges Of The Balkans. A Report, Fridericianum Museum (Kassel, 2003; curator: René Bloch), 54th Venice Biennale (Albanian Pavilion, curator: Riccardo Caldura). His works have also been displayed at the New York Chelsea Art Museum, the Ljubljana Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Kosovo, National Gallery of Tirana, as well as at the Vienna Sammlung Essl; Shkurti took part in the First Tirana Biennial (2001). He was one of the invited artists of the 2016 exhibition at Ludwig Museum titled The Whale that Was a Submarine – Contemporary Positions from Albania and Kosovo. His work Alice in Wonderland was since acquired by the Ludwig Stiftung’s Collection. He lives and works in Tirana.
