The exhibition, which opened in the spring at the Hungarian Institute in Sofia has a dual function. On the one hand, following the objectives of the Hungarian Institute, it aims to create a strong contemporary presence for the Bulgarian audience open to the arts, and on the other hand, the institution’s musical programs can appear along with other arts.

The exhibition #Bartók 2.0 was originally created on the occasion of the International Liszt-Bartók Piano Competition, organized jointly by the Hungarian Institute and the Pancho Vladigerov Academy of Music in Sofia, to celebrate its jubilee. The display is a pop-up exhibition compiled from the material of the #Bartók exhibition in 2016 based on the collection of the Ludwig Museum.

The 2016 exhibition, timed for the Bartók Memorial Year, looked at the composer’s legacy through the means of contemporary art. Besides neo-avant-garde classics, most of the exhibits were works whose creators occupied conceptual positions between visual art, science and music. In terms of genre and technique, most of the exhibits were mixed (hybrid) works, and the exhibition as a whole was marked by the prominent presence of new artistic media.
