ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange has been inviting renowned international curators and critics to participate in the Check in Budapest visitor program since 2006. The aim of the program is to expand the network and facilitate efficient and continuous professional exchange among actors of the contemporary art scene in Hungary and abroad.

The next guest and lecturer of the program is Marta Szymanska, artistic coordinator of FOTOFESTIWAL International Festival of Photography in Łodz.

In her lecture Marta Szymanska is going to talk about the curatorial and programming practice of the Łódź FOTOFESTIWAL of the last years and outline the thematics of the upcoming festival in 2011. The presentation will be accompanied by a short movie reviewing the past editions of the festival.

Place: LudwigInzert (József krt. 70, Budapest H-1085, on the corner of József körút - Nap utca)

The lecture will be held in English. All are welcome! Admission is free.

The next edition of the FOTOFESTIWAL
will take place between 5-30 May 2011.

The festival program consists of 3 main sections:

● OUT OF LIFE – curated by Krzysztof Candrowicz and Nina Kassianou; the exhibition will focus on the theme of the escape from reality in contemporary society.
● OUT OF SPACE – moving from the orthodox spaces of museums and galleries, 10 projects are going to be presented in the city space of Łódź.The works are selected from among the projects submitted by photographers and curators, the most interesting one will be awarded with the title of Grand Prix Fotofestiwal.
● OUT OF MIND – the exibition inspired by the theme of freakness, eccentrics, freak shows. The theme of ‘freakness’ is examined in contemporary photography and society but historical approach, presentations of collections, video projects, etc. are not excluded, either.

Marta Szymańska (1980) lives and works in Łódź. Since June 2010 she works as artistic coordinator of FOTOFESTIWAL International Festival of Photography in Łódź. Between 2005-2008 she was the chief editor of the Foundation of Visual Education’s and Łódź Art Center’s publications. Since 2005 she is the coordinator of the Photo Festival Union representing the leading photography festivals in Europe.
