Join exhibition curators Katarína Bajcurová and Lucia Gregorová Stach for a guided tour of In the End There Will Be No End, an exhibition presenting neo-avant-garde and contemporary art from the Art Fond Collection in Bratislava.
Spanning the period from the mid-1960s to the present, the exhibition explores the continuities, interruptions and transformations that have shaped experimental art in Slovakia within a broader Central European context. Organised as a sequence of thematic and spatial chapters, it brings together significant works of the neo-avant-garde with those of middle and younger generations.
Monographic ensembles devoted to key artists are placed in dialogue with contemporary works, revealing affinities that extend beyond chronology and direct artistic influence. Continuity emerges here through returns, revisions and renewed encounters with earlier artistic strategies. Conceptual approaches, experiments with language and the body, interventions in space and everyday reality, and reflections on political and social conditions take on different meanings in changing historical contexts.
The exhibition follows the ways in which artists have repeatedly reconsidered the boundaries of the artwork, the role of the artist and the relationship between individual experience and collective history. It also draws attention to the persistence of attitudes grounded in artistic freedom, critical reflection and civic responsibility.
During the tour, the curators will introduce selected works and discuss the connections, tensions, and unexpected correspondences that emerge between them. They will also offer insight into the development of the curatorial concept, the process of selecting works from the Art Fond Collection, and the way the architecture of the Ludwig Museum shaped the exhibition as a succession of distinct yet interconnected environments.
The tour will provide an opportunity to consider the exhibition not simply as a historical overview but as an open conversation among works, generations, and artistic positions whose questions continue to resonate in the present.

The exhbition consideres neo-avant-garde not as a closed art historical phenomenon, but as a state of mind that continues to inform conceptual, intermedia, feminist, ecological, and activist positions in contemporary art. Building on dialogues across artist generations, the exhibition focuses on issues in common rather than linear chronology: memory, the body, leaving traces, and the possibilities of inner freedom in conditions of external constraint.
