How do we encounter one another, and what can happen between two people in a fleeting moment of encounter? For Swiss performance artist Marinka Limat, walking is more than a means of getting from one place to another: it is an opportunity to meet others and discover new experiences.

Her film Art of the Encounter documents an artistic pilgrimage from Kassel to Athens in 2017, during which she sought to encounter as many strangers as possible.

The programme begins with a participatory workshop in which a series of performative exercises invites participants to explore different dimensions of encounter, from becoming aware of their own presence to connecting with another person and experiencing the dynamics of a group.

The workshop will be followed by an artist talk, during which Marinka Limat will discuss her artistic pilgrimages, the art of walking and encounter, and her own artistic practice with the curators of the exhibition Walk This Way. The Art of Walking.

The programme accompanies the exhibition Walk This Way. The Art of Walking.

Venue: Ludwig Museum, 1st-floor workshop space, and “Walk This Way: The Art of Walking” exhibition
