The work was created during a trip to Istanbul: Lengyel took pictures of the sky on both the European and the Asian sides of the Bosporus. This is the meeting point of two continents that we may think of as two separate cultural units, yet the sky above them remains the same. Lengyel showed the work, under the title Sky of Eurasia, in 1976 at the Rózsa Café. In the framework of a “slide action,” he projected the two images onto the sky. Lengyel had been interested in the sky and the clouds from 1975 onwards, starting with a series of cloud-sketches. The formal diversity of clouds roaming the skies and the sublimity of nature inspire constant observation in the artist, who turns this silent contemplation into his artistic method. This is why he views his works as objects of meditation. A characteristic feature of his art is the interconnection of macrocosmic phenomena and micro worlds. The artist works as a catalyst between these different spheres, creating a link between tangible and intangible. KÜ
