★ Extended Present – 1st floor
The exhibition focuses on the state of permanent transience: it captures the moment when the temporal dimension of the present is expanded and – by means of visual art – the characteristics and internal events of this state can be observed up close. It is as if we were seeing all the simultaneous processes of a point of condensation (the present) in one and the same continuity that freezes the penultimate moment – as a kind of stretched-out present.
★ Emplotment – 2nd floor
The guiding principle of the exhibition is the adaptation of both material and personal sources of trauma by means of the tools of visual art and a novel analysis of their performative representation. We examine how artists’ participation in these processes has changed over the last two to three decades, and what new approaches and perspectives have emerged in different artistic practices.
★ Time Machine – 3rd floor
The exhibition at the Ludwig Museum is not about the science-fiction possibility of time travel, but examines the relationship between time and art from different perspectives, and sees the works themselves as time machines that allow us to travel mentally. From the museum’s collection of about 1000 pieces, we have selected works that reveal different aspects of personal, artistic and historical time from the curator’s personal point of view.

Bem Tábornok, Ludwig Museum’s resident DJ, is preparing a true museum exoticism mixed with vinyl – consumability and winking humour.

19.00 – 20.00 | The phenomenology of nasal perception – A scent tour with Csenge Lipovszky, Hungary’s only fragrance aesthetician
“Smell is one of our most powerful superpowers, but we have almost completely forgotten to use it over the millennia. During the programme, we’ll get a sniff of this instinctive knowledge and by the end of the tour, we’ll find out what our sense of smell tells us about ourselves.” I wonder what empty space smells like? Does the white cube have a smell, and what kind of scent will the curators’ efforts produce?
The programme is linked to the exhibition Extended Present, which also features Dane Mitchell’s work on the scent of empty space.

The most exciting things in the life of a museum happen behind the scenes! On this special day, guided by our colleagues, visitors will get a first-hand look into areas that are otherwise closed to the public! After the walk, we will arrive at the Time Machine exhibition in the giant lift that transports the artefacts, where a short interactive guided tour will conclude the programme.
The tour will be guided by a museum educator and museum conservator from the Ludwig Museum.

19.00 – 22.00 | Foolish Robot workshop
Turn your ideas and visions into drawings using robot plotters. Find out and try out how algorithms can help you, how automated machine methods can extend your possibilities in realising a drawing. Today computer graphics is mostly made up of electrical and virtual pixels. But before the advent of screens, visual content was displayed using plotters, robots and special processes. Nowadays, these alternative, slower, more unique imaging processes are coming back to the fore due to the overwhelming imagery and visual environment. During the workshop, we will use markers and paints to draw digital content, vectors, lines, shapes on art paper and other media. We will learn the basics of computer graphics and how to control robotic arms, as well as playfully getting closer to traditional methods of image making. At the end of the event, the finished works will be available to take away.
The workshop will be led by Ágoston Nagy.

21.00 – 23.00 | The Nomi Song – Exclusive film screening
Klaus Nomi was one of the most bizarre figures of the 1980s underground subculture. As a countertenor he performed pop songs with the charisma of a diva and in the style of an opera singer. His extreme costumes were an integral part of his performances, and he modestly described himself as “the perfect video star”. In his sadly short career, he released two albums and one live album, which included his own compositions and covers of popular songs. He collaborated with many musicians, including David Bowie. His impact is still felt twenty years after his death.
This 96-minute music documentary includes archive footage, performance pieces and interviews.
