Unpacking My Library - The Virtual Library of the Hungarian Pavilion (1986-2017)
At the 57th International Venice Art Biennale a project titled „Unpacking My Library”, inspired by Walter Benjamin’s essay „Ich packe meine Bibliothek aus” published in 1931, allows the artists of Viva Arte Viva to compile a list of their favourite books. As Christine Macel artistic director of the exhibiton puts it this is „both a way to get to know the artists better and a source of inspiration for the public”.

The Library of the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art wishes to expand this project both in space and time and invited the exhibitors of the Hungarian Pavilion from the past 30 years to compile and share a list of their favourite books which inspired their art with us. The Virtual Library of the Hungarian Pavilion is installed on the glass walls of the library during the time of the main exhibition and is also available online with bibliographical references.
