Tamás Komoróczky is primarily interested in the ways pop culture articulates itself, a subject he examines in the context of fine art. Does seeing a videoclip on a music channel or in an exhibition space change our reception and interpretation? Is pop culture any different from the contemporary art of today, and if so, in what aspects? Tamás Komoróczky’s video pieces make the viewer unsure about the possibility of a certain, definite answer to these questions. When making the video Lullaby, the artist was living in Berlin, where, with his camera at hand, he was collecting “found scenes” on the street, which he later recreated. The picture of bags dancing in the air is completed by a computer effect and the karaoke-like lyrics of a covered Smiths song. The video etude is the artistic expression of the loneliness of the artist’s years in Berlin. KT. MZS
