The importance of MIKLÓS ERDÉLY’s art and personality cannot be overstated. This piece is a typical carbon paper work illustrating the epistemological and mathematical thinking of Miklós Erdély. “Carbon paper was a privileged material for Erdely, linking his research into image theory to his artistic work. Carbon paper drawings were pictorial commentaries on the question of originality and copy, influenced by Erdely’s mathematical knowledge. These drawings can often be understood as a two-dimensional ‘representation’ of the Moebius strip.” The first motif in the work entitled Thread Work is repeated twice more, copied with carbon paper, while there are no fold or cut marks on the paper.
