A selection from the video collection of the Ludwig Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art

Today, video has become the visual art medium that has most effectively taken over the former functions of art (education, pleasure, social criticism, dealing with the past, etc.) and communicates them most effectively to the public. At the same time, artists are overwhelmed by the thousands of new technical possibilities that are multiplying every day, and at the same time they are very conscious of the way they use them in their work. The Ludwig Museum's collection aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the main trends in video art, while at the same time showing the specific Central European characteristics of this genre.

In 1997, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest purchased the first installation that included moving image, or video. From then on, video works were regularly included in the museum's collection. Today, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest owns more than 70 videos, films and video installations. The museum's video collection was first presented to the public in a solo exhibition in 2008.

The exhibition Women's Eyes presents eight works by five women artists. The earliest work dates from 1984, the latest from 2016. The five artists differ not only in age, but also in style and attitude, yet all eight works have a feminine approach, a distinct female perspective.
